Last weekend, I travelled to Shannon a la Mystic Falls(if you watch Vampire Dairies, you’ll understand :)), a small sleepy town in County Clare, Ireland. Since I got back from Lagos in January, this has been my first getaway which is totes unusual for me. Due to some situations which has caused me to remain grounded this year, I’ve been unable to travel and I’ve been having wanderlust withdrawal symptoms, trust me! But, my parents are every bit the wanderluster that I am, so I was lucky to tag along with them on a family trip with my younger sister in tow.
Traveling to Shannon for a couple days was a much needed break from what had become my daily routine at the time. What the small town lacked in pizzaz was made up for abundantly in beauty. The houses in Shannon are amazing and they put London’s to shame. The houses are huge in comparison, most are detached or semi-detached and they all have gorgeously manicured lawns. There were colourful flowers everywhere I looked and it was a great sight for sore eyes.
Anyway, what this post is about is Bunratty Castle which we visited on the second day after our arrival. The castle is also in County Clare and only about a twenty minutes drive from where we were staying. The castle is famous for its medieval banquets offered since 1963, at which the “Bunratty Castle Entertainers” perform today.
I enjoyed the tour around the castle and it was lovely seeing how things were, hundreds of years ago. Also, on the same grounds as the castle, is the Bunratty Folk park and like a child, I loved it all.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the images!
Do tell, where have you travelled to recently or where would you like to go?
